Parity produces worst Stanley Cup in 20 years?

09:40 AM ET 05.27 | Congratulations, everybody! We have the worst Stanley Cup final in more than 20 years! That's only technically speaking, of course, as New Jersey and Los Angeles should be solid entertainment. But when the Devils beat the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime on Friday night to set up a date with the Kings, it meant the ninth and 13th overall teams from the regular season will battle it out for the right to hoist Lord Stanley's mug. New Jersey was ninth overall and the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Kings were 13th overall and eighth in the Western Conference. Their regular-season placings total 22. The only higher sum was in 1991, when the No. 7 Pittsburgh Penguins beat the No. 16 Minnesota North Stars. In fact, not since the playoffs expanded to 16 teams in 1980 has the better seed among the finalists been as low as No. 9 overall. Parity has never been more prevalent.

It all stems from the goaltending. Quick is the best, and that allows the defensemen to step up and take chances knowing that they do not always have to get back. GO KINGS

Yeah, but game 3 and 4 are on NBCSports. But yes, a guaranteed 3 rating at worst for this series. Bring on the sponsors! I still miss the old Labatt's Blue Commercials (with My Blue Heaven as the theme from the early 90's).

Dont blame the teams, blame the stupid 3 point games for parity. The reason everyone is close is because everyone gets a stupid point every game. I know the Peg didn't have the NHL for a while but they should realize that.
Oh and what a glorious weekend this still is.

Quick may end up winning the MVP even if LA loses (which I don't think will happen) but can the LA offense crack the front of the net of NJ's Defense. That, IMHO, is the key.

Agreed. It is like giving every kid at the tournament a trophy so they don't hurt any feelings. Also,I wouldn't be too sad if they got rid of the shoot out. Only two points from a game. Go earn them!

It's all about getting hot at the right time. Look at the NFL, the last two SB winners barely made it into the postseason, both making it on the last day of the season.

Nonsense. I watched the Kings run over the Coyotes from center ice. They are a great team. Too bad they take so many dives. Brown goes down in a gust of wind. I really believe that they could have won out without all the cheating.
