09:54 AM ET 05.27 | Vlad Guerrero is ready for bigger and better things on the road back to the major leagues with the Blue Jays. The veteran slugger was set to join the Class-A Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League on Sunday, his first league play since he signed with the Jays two weeks ago. "He'll be in the lineup (Sunday). They have an off-day (Monday), so he'll be back (in extended spring training) for the day, then back with Dunedin," Jays manager John Farrell said Saturday. If all goes well, Guerrero should join Double-A New Hampshire or even Triple-A Las Vegas by the end of the week, Farrell said.

I don't get this move. You have an improving young line up with Bautista in the middle of it. Where does the Vlad the Impaler (yes, best nickname by far) fit? The Jays currently use the DH to get JP an off day from behind the plate, with Thames and others.
They take their time bringing the kids through and then they put pressure on them by signing one of the best hitters from the late '90s.
This lineup will play meaningful September games, and next year they will battle the Rays and Os for the division while the Yanks and Sox might join my Masters baseball league

I hope Vald likes those long bus rides cheap hotels and very little meal money.

I'm pretty sure Vlad's future with the Jays is as a bench player/pinch hitter. He could prove me wrong and end up playing DH 5 days out of 7, or possibly even replace Thames (who hasn't been good at all), but I don't think they signed him to play every day.

Jays needed a bat after Adam Lind imploded. At best, Vlad contributes with his bat, at worst, he is a good influence on the young players.

I'm from Montreal and you can be sure that we're a lot of former Expos fans excited about Guerrero coming back to Canada !

For sure, it's a marketing no brainer here. Can wait to see him back in the great white north !
