Bears already phasing out Forte

08:04 AM ET 05.28 | The Jay Cutler-Brandon Marshall reunion may not bode well for Matt Forte. Not sure [Forte] noticed, but the Bears all but announced this week they now think they are a passing team. ... While Forte skipped the first week of organized team activities because of a contract dispute that the Tribune has learned includes concerns over Forte's knees, Cutler and Marshall took turns complimenting each other. When they weren't reminiscing about 2008, that is. Is it worth pointing out the Broncos' leading rusher that season gained 343 yards? Nothing about coordinator Mike Tice's newly installed Broncos-styled offense Cutler and Marshall described made anybody conclude it needs a marquee running back.

Yikes... It's not even June yet. The Tribune is blowing smoke, but I wish the Bears and Forte could work something out, but it's not going to happen until Chicago feels good about Forte's knees. And that won't happen if he avoids OTAs.

And with the consistency of Cutler and Marshall, they had better hope that Forte is ready. Too many issues between them (not personally) not to have a reliable running game available.

I don't get the Bears. They need to pay this guy.

I don't get it. Here we have a guy that despite a less than consistent offensive line (I'm being kind here), practically carries the Bears until he get hurts. Get him into camp!

The Bears are setting an example of how not to break the bank with one player. Perhaps this will be a turning point for shorter contracts, less overall money and the changing of philosophy that says, what do we believe you can do for us next year and the year after not the past five.
As soon as they pay this guy he goes busts.

Do I love Forte and what he has brought to the Bears the last 5 or so seasons? Hells yes...but with that being said this is definitely a passing league and tying up big $ in a RB just doesn't make sense anymore. The Patriots have done just fine without a marquee RB, so have the Steelers, G-Men, Saints and Colts...oh by the way, those 5 teams make up your last 9 Super Bowl winners

I'm a die hard Bears fan, Love them!!! i was so on the pay Forte bandwagon until i saw how much they were willing to pay him and it included a crap load of guaranteed money. Now i say move on, get rid of him if he doesn't want to play for Millions offered!

Actually they don't need to pay him what he seeks. He turned down over 20 mill guaranteed and is looking for a AP or Johnson type "deal". I suspect that deal is now off the proverbial table since they signed Bush and are heading in a different direction.
I certainly expected a deal ASAP when they got a new GM, the fact it didn't happen goes to show you he has insane expectations of 40 million (or more) in guaranteed money. Just because the Bi-Queens and Titans are idiots doesn't mean the Bears should follow that same route.
The stupid move was not trading him on draft day, the RB crop was thin at best and he'd have brought some great picks in return. OTOH they will likely franchise him this year and next and then say sayonara to him, and if he wants to hold out go ahead and lose your accrued tenure.
It's all business and I hope the Bears keep it that way, don't handcuff yourself with some stupid contract to a above average (but not exceptional) RB.

Looks like the Bears are well on their way to challenging the Queens for supremacy at the bottom of the NFC North.

Passing team? Knox is out and you have Brandon Marshall who is only a few rants away from having his team mates turn there backs on him. They have an iffy offensive line, and now you want to take out Forte and lose any play-action.
Sure why not?

upon further review, the bears still suck...I thought Chicago was a working man's town. You get a grinder like Forte and dis him in favor of a prima donna unproven quarterback who thinks he's better than Elway and a receiver who is likely the next TO...they will bomb alright...it will be sad, but you get what you go for...enjoy the view from the rear...they will be lucky to win half of their games...just a matter of time before they let Urlacher go to, or he just gets out, why would he wish to stay??

Does anyone remember that those beloved 2008 Denver Broncos that Cutler and Marshall remember so well didn't make the playoffs? Or that Cutler had an losing record as a starter in the NFL at that time?

Comparing the 2008 Broncos to the 2012 Bears? Apples and oranges. I'll wait until February before I even consider doing that.

Now... you wouldn't want to burst Bears fans illusion of greatness with a trifling little matter such as history, would you?
