Vols already playing catch-up

08:27 AM ET 05.28 | This time of year, without games to win, it's recruiting battles that go on the ledger of college head coaches. When your job is in doubt -- recruit. Are you listening, Derek Dooley? Nothing promotes job security like winning. But recruiting runs a solid second. ... [Dooley] is trying to pile up as many quality commitments as he can to fortify his status at Tennessee. Early returns are mixed. UT has seven public verbal commitments, including recent addition Cameron Miles, an acclaimed defensive back from Mesquite, Texas. But the total of seven ranks low in the SEC. The Vols already are playing catch-up. In the SEC, only Arkansas, Mississippi State and Kentucky have fewer commitments.

If they lose to Kentucky again, I say give him an extension.

Agreed...unfortunately the folks at Tennessee actually give a flip about football and I'm predicting he doesn't last to the end of the 2012 season. I was actually shocked he was allowed on the bus back to Knoxville after losing to Kentucky which was using a wide receiver at Quarterback. It's obvious the Vols are poorly coached.

Is DD gonna replace MR as the annual SEC hotseat guy? Or will he not even last that long?

Double D is damned if he does and damned if he don't. To stay UTK's HC, he'll have to show much improvement on the field and in the cohesiveness of his staff. A tall order for 2012. There is a chance that UTK will not identify an appropriate HC candidate to replace Dooley. Then, they may offer him a 1 year extension to prove he's got something going. If he walks away from that, truly, the Vols will be frelled.

Phillip Fulmer is still sittin' in TN, waiting!

Johnny Majors is sitting somewhere, with a large glass of bourbon and a wisp of a smile passing across his lips. Of course this is no different than when he was coaching, but still.
