Humphries in Sixers' future?

08:05 AM ET 05.29 | Letting Elton Brand walk under the NBA's amnesty clause would open up a significant spot on the Sixers roster, one that could be filled by a power forward from the crop of potential free agents. Amnesty allows a team to pay a player his salary -- something even wealthy team owners don't look upon favorably -- while it comes off the team's salary cap. The power forward who has risen to the top of that list is believed to be New Jersey unrestricted free agent Kris Humphries. ... He shot better than 48 percent from the field. He is a very good offensive rebounder -- something the Sixers sorely need -- and he is an improving defender. The Sixers will almost certainly have their name mentioned in connection with Humphries.

IMO I think that would pretty much be a lateral move

If we can get Humpfries and all we have to let go is Brand I am all for it. There are not plenty of teams willing to pay 18 million plus on Brand so I don't see us trading Brand to be honest. If we don't keep Hawes I think we will be on the outside looking in trying to get a playoff spot next year.

He is not our number one need but he is needed and I am thinking long term here. The problem is we can't just find a closer on the streets waiting to come to philly. Let's face it Philly is not the destination of choice for free agents. So I would rather build some long term pieces and hope someone on the team develops into the closer/go to person.

I think he will command roughly 10-11 Mill/year for 4 years on the market. Anything more than that is a reach in my opinion but someone will reach. If the Sixers don't get him he will be on a team like the Kings, Suns, Cavs ie, bad teams with cap room
