Dempster's future up in the air

08:13 AM ET 05.29 | Chicago bears watching if only because there is some talent on a roster that's only a day removed from losing a dozen consecutive games. Right-hander Ryan Dempster knows he could be traded in July as the Cubs look to the future and contending teams look for pitching help. But team president Theo Epstein was noncommittal when asked about Dempster on Monday, saying there has been an "open dialogue" between the two about his future. Asked if Dempster might yet be signed to a new contract, Epstein said, "Long term, sure. We'll have to take a realistic look at where we are." Dempster, 35, is in his ninth season with the Cubs and in the last year of a four-year contract.

The Cubs should move Dempster, for his sake and for the team's. I think the guy could do okay in the AL, and could be heading somewhere such as Detroit, Baltimore or across town to the Pale Sox.

Actually, going with your logic, he's on the perfect team right now. On another note, please find something sharp and stick it in your jugular.

This is going to be a difficult decision. He is one of the Cubbies two best pitchers. If they trade him, what do they have left? He is a very popular player too with both the fans and his teammates. Without him, this season would be headed for a failure of epic proportions. Cubbies fans are already revolting! But Dempster 35 years old. Isn't he too old to sign another mufti-year contract? And if he gets hurt, or his effectiveness slides (he's already had a couple of bad outings in the last few weeks) the Cubbies look to lose some nice prospects they could get for him now. Whatever Theo and Jed is bound to go wrong.

He seems to dislike the Sox regardless of thread or thread topic.

You might be waiting a while. Asking a guy who can't spell, let alone think, to define something will be a monumental task for him.

Seems he is inviting a beating rather than "pick'in" is all.

I think even if he gets traded, it'll be a Kerry Wood situation where he will go to a contender and help them out til he hits his Free Agency when he will come back and retire a Cub. The guy is just beloved by the fans and team and the thought of him playing anywhere, let alone playing as well as hes capable of just sucks to think about.

They really have a choice but to move him. He will be free at the end of the season and why would you want to resign with the Cubs at 35 and no chance to win.
