08:08 AM ET 05.30 | NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy took the occasion of a media conference call on Tuesday to level quite an accusation. [Van Gundy] said he believes the organization assembled "a very poor roster by design." Van Gundy also said he wouldn't reward bad teams with extra chances in Wednesday night's draft lottery. "I don't think the players and the coaching staff (tanked). I think the organization did by not getting the best roster" available, Van Gundy said. "You could make the case at any position that they did not have a top-15 player" at that position in the league. ... "What they're doing, most (front office) people would do. But it's by design," Van Gundy said.

This team is so bad that not even the top pick in the draft could make them relevant.

Maybe not THIS year but look back at the teams that drafted high (top 4)....with the right player and subsequent draft picks you can be a player in a few years. OKC is probably the ideal model for doing this but there are a few others I could point out. Point is, not many teams outside of LAC stay down for long. You think this doesnt hurt MJ's pride??

The tank was in as soon as the lockout was over. Jordan didn't want to keep players that had them in the playoffs for whatever reason. That being said they are a few successful draft picks from being relevant again. I say 3-5 years if they can get 2 franchise picks in that span maybe that reach the Raptors, Warriors level. They have very few if at all tradeable players and very few players want to come to the worse team in the NBA. So Jordan must draft well or remain a doormat for the rest of the league.

Management has to make the right draft choices. It's generally not an issue with the #1 or #2 pick (Kevin Durant was a no-brainer), but after that management has to make the right choices (like James Harden and Russell Westbrook) Hence the reason OKC was able to come back to quickly while teams like the Clippers, Warriors, and Kings have taken a lot longer.
From what I've seen to this point, Bobcats management hasn't shown they can draft well.
