08:13 AM ET 05.30 | While some have him possibly ticketed for the DL, Dustin Pedroia prefers to stick on the active roster. After aggravating [a thumb injury] and leaving Monday's game in the fifth inning, Pedroia took an MRI [Tuesday] that revealed a tear in the adductor muscle. But after reviewing the test results, the team's medical staff and an independent doctor in Arizona agreed that Pedroia didn't suffer any ligament or tendon damage and won't require surgery. And so, for nearly a half-hour after last night's game, the Red Sox' heart-and-soul second baseman tried to convince manager Bobby Valentine, general manager Ben Cherington and the team's doctors and athletic trainers that he can play through the injury and avoid going on the disabled list.

if only the rest of the players had the respect and love for the game that he has...its crazy that pro sports is all about how "disrespected" the players are when they get their million dollar contracts

How many blows can the Red Sox take this year?

Ellsbury. Crawford. Youk. Bailey. Ross.

Remember last spring when people were predicting a Red Sox -Phillies World Series. Boy, look at those two franchises since.

I respect Pedroia for wanting to play through an injury, but I also consider that fine line of playing hurt and hurting your team by playing hurt

I agree, it's a long season. If he needs to sit for 3 or 4 weeks to get right, that's what they should do.

If he does sit, I hope they go out and find a 2nd baseman, cause I sure as hell can't watch Nick Punto in the lineup everyday.
