08:14 AM ET 05.30 | Earlier this season, one report on Roy Halladay's decreased velocity suggested the issue might bear watching. [The two scouts quoted in the FOX Sports story] are not the only people who had some suspicions about the veteran righthander's physical well-being. "I've thought since spring training that there was an issue," pitching coach Rich Dubee said on Tuesday. ... "The ball just hasn't been accelerating through the zone the way his stuff does. His cutter has been moving that way, but his stuff is different than most people's stuff. Does he have that 96 (MPH velocity)? No. But his stuff, from the grass through the hitting zone, is explosive. It just took off. It was just more gradual now. It didn't have the finish to it."

It was a nice career Halladay had. It all always comes to an end eventually. Doc falls to earth, finally.

Yep - he's on the DL - no doubt his career is over....

This is a major blow to the Phillies....I don't think his career is over....but with the injuries they already have ..eight weeks of no Halladay may be a bit much to overcome ....

Halladay has been a consistent performer during his career. He will get this taken care of, and he will return.

As for the Phillies, they are not going to make the playoffs this year. Chris Carpenter shut the door on their window of opportunity last year, and it remains closed. If Hamels leaves...

It ain't looking optimistic in the City of Brotherly Love.

Not being able to garner Roy Oswalt hasn't helped either.

The reality is that Halladay is 35, and a few years ago this may not have been that big of a deal, but Father Time has this ability to catch all of us.

True, and how do you perform at that high of a level year after year after year?

Pyayin, I got one word for you: "SNAP"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If if if Shoulda Woulda Coulda, that's all you got now. Wait for next year: Another day older and deeper in debt, St. Peter don't yah call me cause I can't come, I owe my soul to the company stow. You have priced yourself right out of everything.

a stitch in time saves nine, the squeeky wheel gets the grease, a bird in the hand...snap? not familiar with that one.

QUOTE(#9):

Like I have said, the stupid Phillies (as did the Blue Jays) liked to overwork Halladay by letting him pitch 9 innings because everyone thought it was cool. And Prayin, your only hope to not end up in last place is to hope that Roy can do the Beckett thing and learn to pitch fantastic junk at 92 mph when and if he comes back. And again, like I have always said, Chubby Checker is next. The only thing saving him is his big gut which he uses to sling shot the baseball at high speeds. Coming to a halt soon, maybe this year.

I predict a baseball player will eventually be injured...hmmmm...

Well if we are doing it on a whim...let's stick a spork in him.
