Alabama recruiting one more 2013 QB

08:20 AM ET 05.30 | Perhaps Cooper Bateman's won't be the last commitment among quarterbacks for Alabama's Class of 2013. Just a week after receiving Bateman's commitment, Alabama extended a scholarship offer to Marietta, Georgia star Parker McLeod, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect from Walton High School. McLeod is the teammate of another Alabama commit, running back Tyren Jones, and made a strong showing recently at the Atlanta Nike Football Training Camp. ... Alabama's offer joins previous offers from Oklahoma State, Louisville and Maryland among others and while McLeod's status as a three-star prospect makes him less of a highly-touted prospect than Bateman, it's clear that the Tide are looking to bolster their quarterback depth.

What about the class of '14? or '15? Where does it end?
Didn't USC get a commitment from an 8th grader a few years ago?

We're talking about a 3* recruit?
Guess what, I think every FBS school is signing 1 or 2 3* QBs this year.

Still don't get why a good qb would want to go to a school where all he does is short passes and hand off to RBs.

Good question.

There have been a few highly publicized "early" commits.

Name one in the last 10 years? The best one they had, McElroy, wasn't recruited by any of the big schools where he really wanted to go.

McElroy was a 3 star that we got when Shula was the Head Coach.

Isn't the dude in the article (Bateman) a four or five star kid?

Yes. And so isn't A.J. McCarron.

All quarterbacks who play that position in high school may switch to other position in college.

Looks like Alabama is going to the two QB system spread hurry-up offense.

Their last big QB signing transferred. The big time athletes and arms get Bama fever and once they are there, they see the writing on the wall. IMO Saban won't put up with the ego that the 4-5 stars seem to have. Who knows if Bateman will pan out, but history has shown it to be otherwise.

A.J McCarron seems to be doing just fine. Other schools have QBs transfer and you guys never seem to think that "signals" anything. Philip Sims was 1 year behind McCarron. That's all there is to it.
I'm not sure what history you are referring to. Are you referring to QBs under Coach Saban? Isn't Matt Flynn about to be a starter somewhere? Or QBs under Shula and other bad coaches? I know we like to look at McElroy and see some kind of pattern in 1 QB, but Greg, despite what he accomplished, was not a Saban QB and Saban had been quoted in the past that he probably would not have recruited Greg. But, you work with what you have when you take a new job.

You can only have 1 QB on the field at a time, usually. More PT at WR or DB.

You're like Alabama's publicity rep.

On the original question of why would a good QB go to Bama, my response is I haven't seen one play there yet. The best since Bama's resurgence has been GM. I watched AM play 5 games last year, and wasn't impressed. I don't consider him to be a "Good" QB. He is perfect for what Bama does, but prob wouldn't start for half the BCS teams out there.
I know GM well. Smart player and the best under center at Bama in the past 10 years, but again, would not have played at most. The highly recruited player that was there transferred. Until there is a highly talented QB under center, you have to go with what has been shown on the field. When I said that Saban wouldn't deal with the ego's that go along with said talented QB's, it wasn't a knock. Actually, the opposite. Its from a statement from people who have been there first hand.
