How long before Quentin's on the block?

08:10 AM ET 05.31 | Since coming off the DL, Carlos Quentin has been on the kind of tear that raises the eyebrows teams that need offense. [The Padres are] 16 1/2 games back in the NL West (no other team in baseball is more than 12 1/2 games out of first place). It's already time to start thinking about selling, and Quentin, a poor defensive outfielder who probably isn't a long-term piece in Petco Park, would seem to be an obvious candidate to go in a trade this summer. Some could use him more than others, but just about every AL contender aside from the Angels could find a way to fit his bat in somehow. He'd also seem to be precisely the right-handed bat the Reds need in the cleanup spot.

What do the Reds have that the Padres would want? Cincinnati gave the Padres a boatload for Mat Latos. Is there much left?

Same with several other teams. The Padres swapped Adrian Gonzalez to Boston for a nice haul. The Yanks don't really need him, do they? Tampa or Texas or Detroit? Where would he play?

The team that probably makes the most sense, if they have something to deal, is Cleveland. How about Quentin and Chase Headley to Cleveland for Lonnie Chisenhall, a reliever, and some minor leaguers. That could make the Indians relevant.

I think there are many teams that would take a .250 hitter that can hit 25-30 dingers a year.

he'll look crummy in whatever uniform he wears come july when he's regressed to his normal production levels.

Stupid Padres will trade him for two "can't miss" minor league relief pitchers and another back-up catcher. I hate my team...
