08:23 AM ET 05.31 | Ed Snider, whose Flyers were knocked out in the second round of the playoffs, is actually more encouraged by the team's direction this offseason. "To me, every year we want to win the Cup, so if we don't win the Cup, it's an unsuccessful year," Snider said in a phone interview Tuesday from his mansion in Santa Barbara, Calif., just before playing in a tennis match. "Having said that, I'm really, really happy with an awful lot that happened during the course of the season and even in the playoffs." Snider praised the deals that sent Mike Richards and Jeff Carter packing, said he loved the Flyers' young nucleus, and added that he thought the team would have won the Cup had defensemen Chris Pronger and Andrej Meszaros been healthy.

Meanwhile, they're both in the finals and your team isn't.

True but you also can't win it every year and time will tell if Philly comes out on the better end of the two deals.

okay, so this is shaping to be a really bad off season. The SCF are going on...and a "woulda/coulda/shoulda" is the lead?
One of the all-time greatest d-men in NHL history is hanging them up today...and we get "oh if the sun wasn't in my eyes, I would have made that catch"? Really guys?
to quote..well everyone in Star Wars: I have a bad feeling about this ./
This summer is going to make us miss the hard hitting journalism of the waffling Sundin threads.
By the way...aside from everything else, Snider is delusional. Pronger has lost more than a large step, and he certainly wasn't the difference

The Flyers are much more uptight team when Pronger is in the dressing room. I don't think their kids blossom the way they did if he stays healthy.

Spiny, I fully agree with everything you say even that the Pronger lost more then a large step. At least in my eyes when he was present they actually played decent D when he was not there well everyone saw what happened in the playoffs.

but with THE PRONGER in....that seemingly wouldn't have been a problem. In fact, if he played, they could have given bryz the day off, (though in a few of those games, it appears they did)

This article is very informative. It confirms you can play tennis really drunk.

So this means the Flyers won every other year with Pronger. Got it. So do we play next year, or just hand the cup to Philly?

If ifs and buts were beer and nuts . . . . . . .
