08:24 AM ET 05.31 | John Elway has made quick work in under 18 months at the helm of the Broncos, from on-the-field improvements to the splash of signing Peyton Manning. Elway, who turns 52 on June 28, loves golf, travel and his personal life too much to grind until 65 as a football executive. However, he has had another ambition since late in his playing career. Elway wants to own an NFL team, preferably the Broncos. In December 2010, Bowlen discussed two options with Elway -- becoming an executive or a minority partner, but not both. If and when Elway succeeds at one, he would become the other -- either as a minority investor or a majority owner with a group, if and when Bowlen and his family determine their future with ownership of the Broncos.

Elway is the face of the Broncos. This would be a good move.

That's a good point, but it's apples and tobacco. Elway is business-smart: he earned an economics degree from Stanford, one of the best schools in the nation. Jordan is not. (His degree was in "Cultural Geography," whatever that is.) The main leveler - and killer - is ego and how much it gets in the way of common sense. Osweiler looks like ego to me, but having Manning come in - pulling out all stops - doesn't. Elway's not worried about his Broncos legacy. It's going to be interesting to watch. I for one would rather have Elway own the Broncos than that Canadian pimple Bowlen.

I like the idea. Maybe it should be a requirement for ownership to have played.

Considering the cost of an NFL franchise, even the rediculous amounts of money that pro football players sometimes make wouldn't come close.
Teams are owned by multi-gazillionaires who make guys like Elway look like paupers.

He would do well as minority owner of the Broncos. He has been a great executive and will certainly make good decisions when he is invested in the team. The Broncos are a good investment as they have a great fan following.
