08:03 AM ET 06.01 | More than 10 years after his college football dreams were taken from him, Brian Banks is getting another chance. The former prep star from Long Beach, who was recently exonerated in a 2002 rape case, will try out for the Seattle Seahawks on June 7, the team confirmed to The Associated Press. ... The Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins have also called Banks for a tryout, but a first chance with the Seahawks may be the most symbolic for the linebacker. Banks had verbally committed to USC when he was accused of rape. The Trojans' coach at the time was Pete Carroll, who left the university to coach the Seahawks in 2010. In an appearance on the "Today" show last week, Banks asked for NFL coaches to give him a shot.

Glad this guy is getting a second chance.... The girl who cried rape got a huge settlement and was able to carry on with her life.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have also "guaranteed" him a job within their organization, if things don't work out in the NFL.

Of course, the Fins are on the list. Multiple tryouts with Seattle? "We won't sing you after that performance. Wanna try again?" What's this guy's position?

Classy move by Pete Carroll to help get the ball rolling. I hope Banks gets the chance to follow his football dream.

I was good in high school, too. Will the Seahawks give me a shot? Being good at anything in high school is meaningless.

Heck yes, especially if she got a settlement out of this. Throw in 10 years worth of interest on top of it.

The girl in the case won a multi-million dollar settlement from the school district on the basis that they did not provide a safe environment. According to Banks, there wasn't even consensual sex involved; all they did was kiss in an elevator.

I'd be surprised if the school district doesn't come looking for their money very soon.

I'm surprised they didn't hold the elevator company responsible.
Maybe Banks should sue them. After all, he got the shaft.

Are they saying he didn't do it, or are they saying no crime was ever committed? Big difference in the lawsuit.

I bet she's broke now. Guilt probably made her finally tell the truth.

From what I read, there was no crime committed.

It gets better - or much worse: from the LA Times:
"(The plaintiff) testified that Banks raped her on the Poly campus. Banks said the encounter was consensual. Rather than face a prison term of from 41 years to life, Banks accepted a plea deal that destroyed his dream of playing college football. At Poly, he had been a star at linebacker.
(The plaintiff) sued the Long Beach Unified School District, claiming the Poly campus was not a safe environment, and won a $1.5-million settlement. Banks spent more than five years in prison, was required to register as a sex offender and was still on probation wearing an electronic monitoring device. Nearly a decade later, (she) contacted Banks on Facebook, met with him and admitted that she had fabricated the story."
Man, I am all against rape, but this destroyed that person's life. Maybe Banks should sue?
