Halos have a 20-year-old to thank for turnaround

08:13 AM ET 06.01 | Along with the Marlins, the Angles probably wish May lasted all season. My goodness. The Angels. From zero to 60 with the flip of a calendar page. Mike Trout is on the fast track to becoming a star, Pujols has knocked in 23 runs in the past 24 games, Dan Haren is on a roll and, even with ace Jered Weaver on the disabled list with a strained lower back, the Angels are on the move. Following an 8-15 April, they delivered an 18-11 May. "Losing [stinks]," Trout said. "We all stayed positive. We all told ourselves that, sooner or later, things were going to turn around." Trout, who may not stay in the shadow of Bryce Harper much longer, has been a key to the turnaround.

Every team goes through go and hot periods during the season. But with four months to go and a team in Texas not going anywhere I wish them luck.

......angels and pujols saved face for awhile with the play in may...... but the kids and pujols will be less impressive as time goes forward, as will the halos......

I'm not sure what you mean by saying the Rangers aren't going anywhere. Do you mean they're not leaving the top spot, or they're spinning their wheels?

My guess is the latter, which I wouldn't be so confident of. The Rangers got off to a ridiculously hot 12-2 start. In the subsequent 37 games, they've gone 19-18. Meanwhile, the Angels have ripped off a 18-11 May, making up 3.5 games.

I'm not saying the Angels are going to win the division, but I see it as a lot more possible now than I did 45 days ago. I'd want to see how the next couple of months play out before declaring the Rangers a lock.

Speaking of less impressive, how about the Rangers' last 37 games?

By the way, you talk about your "insiders" a lot. Do they have any guess on when Hamilton will break this year?

June 1, 2012  10:57 AM ET

Did anyone really expect the Angels, with that rotation and that lineup, to keep losing.

We will have a pennant race in the AL West this September.

Mike Trout saving the Humboldt Rollers since May 2012.

Not nearly as played out as Harper. At least this guy is producing.

Here's Harper's slash line thus far:

.274/.357/.504/.861/132

For a 19-year-old rookie, that's producing like a mother ****.

Harper is 26 PAs shy of qualifying for the batting title. If he were qualified, that .861 OPS would rank him as the 34th best hitter in the bigs.

What a non-producing slouch...

Harper is gonna be great. But, if Mike Trout had gotten the consistent playing time last year that Harper is getting, the media would have been falling over themselves talking about him. If you've never seen him play, do yourself a favor and watch him. He does something fantastic every game, and as much as that sounds like an Angels homer talking, I swear to you it's not.

Every day I'm amazed at how easy it all looks for him, and he's become the team's fire in a short amount of time. He's the most excited one, he's the one slapping hands and firing people up, it rubbed off on Pujols a lot as he's now doing the same thing and producing. This kid is special, I can't talk him up enough. I saw him at the Futures Game in person and thought I saw a superstar in waiting, I was right! So happy he's on my team.
