Detroit's most important offseason in decades

08:22 AM ET 06.01 | Ken Holland had joked that he'd announce his retirement soon after Nicklas Lidstrom did, which took place Thursday in Detroit. "I did say that, didn't I?" Holland said, cracking one of the few smiles possible on what was generally considered a sad day in Hockeytown. "This was the day that I long dreaded. We knew that it was going to happen at some time. We're all down right now." ... As sad as he was to bid farewell to Lidstrom, he's fired up about the opportunity awaiting him in what will be the Red Wings' most important off-season in the past 20 years. There's something exhilarating about the uncertainty of tomorrow.

2 Red Wings' stories?
If they were still in the hunt, we probably wouldn't get any

That would make them substantive stories which they don't allow on this site.

It definitely will be an interesting off season in Detroit. They have to audition all those UFAs and players on the trading block. I don't see how they'll get it all done if they wait until after July 1.

Still laugh at the belief that Detroit considers itself Hockeytown...Warroad, Minnesota...now there's a Hockeytown.

Looks like they'll be hogging the headlines at T&R in the foreseeable future. Right up there with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Minnesota Wild. :-(

There were Suter rumors before Lidstrom's anouncement. I can only imagine how strong they're going to be now.
