08:23 AM ET 06.01 | For a long time, no one had to ask, but, with his retirement, who is going to replace Nicklas Lidstrom as captain of the Red Wings? Many teammates feel Henrik Zetterberg would be a natural, sharing many of the qualities that Lidstrom possessed -- but with a little more fire. "He's like Nick but a little more vocal," forward Danny Cleary said Thursday at Lidstrom's retirement press conference. "He's the ultimate team player. He cares about winning and has a great work ethic. He loves his teammates and the guys love him and respect him a lot. He's my 1A, B and C." Zetterberg has been an assistant captain under Lidstrom and appeared to take on more of a leadership role the past couple seasons.

a fine idea

And give Cleary the 'A' that Zetterberg wore when he's promoted to captain.

My likely scenario. But if they bring in Suter they double-think this.

Definitely worth thinking about. Cleary doesn't have an A yet? It would make sense to give him one then.

Everybody knows Bert is the biggest "A" there.

I don't know, I think Ernie is a bit of one also
And Oscar is a real jerk

Not sure about that. It would be hard to pass over a guy who has played with this team for years for a new guy in town. Even for an A.

Hopefully Preds double-think and keep Suter..........if $$$$$ is available.......

Z will be the new Cap... the only other one they'd consider would be Pavel but I don't think he'd want it.
Dan would be a good choice for the other "A"
Going to be an interesting off season....let the spending begin

Any idea what the kids in the Detroit system look like? Any shot at moving some of the kids up to fill some voids instead of overspending in FA?

Where is Roamer when you need him?

I can't beleive they removed my comment #6 (which can be seen quoted in #8). I guess I pissed somebody off. :-)

The kids in their system? What kids? Not much there. Very slim pickings! The last few years haven't been very good for us. Somebody must've broken into Holland's vault and stolen his secret drafting formula. The best we can hope for is that they find a pony or two in the pile of manure we have in the system.

Those Sesame Street fans can be a touchy lot.

Just to give you an idea as to how bad it's been the last few years, we've even drafted a kid named Willie Coetzee from ..... are you ready? ..... Johannesburg, South Africa! And ..... he's white!
