08:24 AM ET 06.01 | Tim Thomas marches to the beat of his own drum, and he may be taking that worldview even further in 2012-13. [Thomas] might be playing elsewhere next season, or he might not be playing at all. A source told ESPN.com on Thursday that the 38-year-old Boston Bruins netminder was contemplating taking next season off. Which doesn't mean he will, but it's something he's apparently raised. Thomas has one year left on his contract that pays him $3 million. ... His no-trade clause lifts July 1. The Bruins have a No. 1 goalie in waiting in Tuukka Rask, so they'd be open to trade offers, especially after a controversy-filled season sparked by Thomas' decision not to attend the Cup champions' visit to the White House.

This is what's called making the news instead of reporting it. Of course what should we expect from the Ebonic Sports Promotion Network?

I read about this on the Boston Globe's site, and apparently Chiarelli will be making comment on this today. I wouldn't understand it at all, but we'll see I suppose. The fact Chia didn't outright deny it makes me think there's something here.

I read this from another source as well. Heard it was a ploy to make Boston think twice about trying to trade him, or really the teams thinking about trading for him.

No he won't. He is 38 and just wants to stay in Boston. By throwing this out, he is just trying to scare other teams off.

Maybe Rask is behind this. It's a clever ploy to get the starting job.

If there's any truth to the story then this would seem to a logical motive.

Until Rask shows he is completely recovered and able to assume the #1 duties, TT will stay in Boston. However, this does set the stage for TT being tradebait as deadline approaches in early 2013.
