Replay might have erased Santana's no-hitter

09:33 AM ET 06.02 | The umpire blew it, but the call and the no-hitter will stand. Maybe because of last night's call by third base umpire Adrian Johnson, there will be new calls for expanded replay. Carlos Beltran appeared to get the only Cardinals hit in Johan Santana's no-hitter last night, an 8-0 win for the Mets at Citi Field, the first no-hitter in Mets history, but Johnson ruled Beltran's blistering line shot over third that hit the chalk line in the sixth inning a foul ball. Beltran then grounded out to third base and Santana went on to get his no-hitter.

Sometimes the umpires give, sometimes they take away. The sad part is this was the first no-hitter in the history of the franchise and a significant part of the discussion is on a missed call.

That's the worrisome part of it.

That was the greatest ONE hitter no hitter I have ever seen. Only in new york what joke.

Give him props, regardless the politics; curious to see that he threw so few strikes - when I think one-hitter er, no-hitter, I think pitching dominance.

What does that even mean..."only in New York"? Only jealous people from East Shyttekick talk that way.

Sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do. This no-hitter thing was a weight around Mets fans necks. I honestly think this is worth at least one and maybe two World Series...the psychological benefit and purging is that high.

Edwin Jackson had 8 walks and 149 pitches in his no hitter by way of comparison. AJ Burnett walked 9. Koufax had a 5 walk no hitter. Not that uncommon.

What a dumb article!!!! If anyone knows anything about baseball, then they should know it takes a little luck to pitch a no-no!!!! There are always bad calls in a baseball game, it's the nature of the game!!!

A no hitter worth a World Series? There's not a player on the planet that would agree with that. Nor a fan save you.

Koufax also pitched a perfect game, no walks or errors, by facing only 27 batters!!!!

Usually, I would agree with you...almost always really. But in Queens? This No-hitter thing is a real, live animal to the point that people remember where they were when NH's were broken up like the JFK assassination or something. I promise you that 50 years from now Mets fans will remember this on equal footing with at least 1986. It probably won't top 1969, but it is definitely a 'top three' moment for this franchise.

Oh...and just to clarify. Not A no hitter...just THIS no-hitter. Breaking the NH cherry for the Mets was an emotional and psychological imperative. Now we can get back to business.

Put an asterick beside it. Not a no-hitter. Need to do something about the poor quality of umpires in the league.
