09:44 AM ET 06.02 | Starlin Castro has been the Cubs' brightest light the last two years, so rumors they were shopping the shortstop brought a strong reaction from manager Dale Sveum. After President Theo Epstein squelched a USA Today report on Thursday, Sveum called it "absurd" before Friday night's 4-3 loss to San Francisco at AT&T Park. "Some (trade speculation) might be warranted, some isn't even close to anything we're ever going to do in this organization," Sveum said. "You talk about ultimate skepticism, that's what (the story was). I don't look into that too far. I think Theo took care of that himself." Castro hadn't heard about the rumor.

He's the only player on this team anyone wants. Of course there are trade rumors about him.

He's the only player on the team anyone wants. It's natural to have trade rumors about him.

Castro is a nice little player-he ain't a 'franchise' type guy......whats the purpose of making him untouchable? they do know they are in last place, right?

This another stupid article. In baseball you built your team up the middle and Cubs have one of the best to get started.

If Castro would bring a huge haul, then deal his ass. They're not winning anything now, are they?

Everyone, and I mean everyone, on the current roster should be available. Any move that could help the team should be considered.

That's the thought. But what you're going to get are prospects. Right now the Cubs are the worst team in baseball. Go lower and you've got Little League. (Actually, that might be a better quality of baseball.) And somebody please buy Marmol a ticket anywhere.

Pure speculation. Sure, they may listen to talks for Castro but he's not going anywhere. Epstein's no ordinary dumbie- he wont trade one of the best SS in baseball.

Now talks about trading Dempster & Garza are true. Trade talks for Garza started last year, but Dempster will be 1st out the door.

I don;t know. If I'm prospect-mad Theo and I can get two what I think are gold ones and a third not so gold, I'm probably going to trade Castro. Garza is gone from what I heard; Dempster is harder to trade. Who I'd really like to see gone is Soriano and his elephant contract. My lame grandmother could play left field better than him.
