Is Brooklyn option for Islanders?

09:27 AM ET 06.03 | So who was that commissioner of a professional sports league seen exiting the Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center subway stop and then hurrying across the street to enter the new Brooklyn arena on Friday afternoon? Why, informants tell us he looked suspiciously like Gary Bettman, who could have been trying to score tickets to the Sept. 28 Jay-Z that will open the arena, might have been checking out the location of the suite from which he would watch the Oct. 2 Islanders-Devils exhibition match if it's not canceled by a lockout, but may also have been visiting the office of developer and owner Bruce Ratner to chat about the possibility of, oh well, an NHL team moving to Brooklyn.

Nothing like a nice Buttgoblin thread to get the blood pumping on a lazy Sunday.

How about a compromise? Move them to Quebec but let them keep the name New York Islanders?

Why not? Giants and Jets play in NJ but kept the name New York.

Exactly. By the way I heard rumor that they played a hockey game last night. They said that LA won again in OT. Doesn't look good for the Devils now.

Kansas City is still waiting. Our elite arena could be ready to house the islanders tomorrow. And for you people that say Kansas City could do it, we are consistently selling out the 19,000 seats at the brand new Live Strong Park for the Sporting Kansas City Soccer games, we sold out almost 100 straight games for the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Royals still get good attendence numbers despite having an apathetic owner and a team that has finished miserably in the standings for 27 years straight. Hockey would succeed at a high level if the owner took an active interest in the community and was committed to winning. The sporting KC owner just paid a million in fines for showing replays the MLS didn't want him to show, but he came out on record saying it was the best million he ever spent because it riled up the fans and helped his team win games. Personally, I don't want to take an NHL team with an established tradition and market, like the Islanders, away from their fans. However, whatever team comes available next needs to sop flirting with my city and just get a deal done. No, we will not show up for exhibition games. We are tired of being jerked around by everyone who wants a new arena. We've been used by the Penguins, Predators, and even the Islanders during their stadium pursuit. Stop skrewing around and give us a team to support already! We would have natural rivalries with St. Louis, Denver, Minnesota, Dallas, and Chicago. Make it happen!

The photo says "Barclays Center."
So I'm assuming that's Sir Charles in the white hardhat.

I agree as well. I think the Devils have played two excellent games so far, doing an excellent job of neutralizing Los Angeles' speed and offense. Still they have nothing to show for two good efforts on home ice.
New Jersey is really in a tough spot now. They have to win the next two games or it's all over.

Taint gonna happen. I truly sorry that you don't have a home team to cheer for as you appear to be very passionate about hockey, but equating sellouts for soccer and football to full scale support for an NHL team in your area is a bit of a stretch.

I'm getting really tired of this re-thread. it would make much more sense to just move to brooklyn than to build a new stadium in long island.

The city the NHL needs to consider is Oklahoma City they have the building and the fan base.

KC is definitely in the 2hd tier behind Seattle and QC Don't see San Fran getting a team as San Jose would be encroached on had never thought of OKC and I know they have an AHL team there don't know how they draw though Vegas if they put an arena in is in between the 1st tier and the bunch led by KC

ever been out there? The time & distance between downtown san fran & san jose is pretty much Montreal & Ottawa. I was amazed when I drove it because on the map it looks like a half hour drive.

The Bay Area would never be able to hold two NHL teams. Just like the LA area can't.
