Fed-up Washington calls Rangers team meeting

09:39 AM ET 06.03 | Know this: Rangers manager Ron Washington hates calling team meetings. That he called one on Saturday and ranted for about 15 minutes following a sloppy 3-2 loss to Los Angeles ought to tell you just how bad the Rangers' quality of play has been recently. "It's been the last three weeks," Washington said when asked what caused him to call the meeting. "I don't like doing it. But we have been playing like we are capable for three weeks now. I just wanted to let them know that. I think I got my point across. "We have to get back to playing Texas Rangers baseball," he added. "We haven't been doing that very well." Before the game, Washington had brushed aside questions about the Rangers' fielding, which had accounted for 26 unearned runs in the last 29 games. After three more errors and another unearned run, Washington did take offense at the caliber of defense the Rangers have recently played. "We pride ourselves on playing defense," he said. "And the defense killed us tonight."

They're squandering a pretty impressive start and letting the Angels back into the race. I guess they still haven't learned how to close things out...

Part of the job of a manager is to put his foot on the player's throats when it's warranted and watching them slop their way for 3 weeks, this is long overdue by Wash.

What is Texas Rangers Baseball?

Mr. Weed I guess you have been sleeping through the last two years. AL champs the past two seasons and last year one strike away from champs. Every team has their ups and downs over a 162 game schedule. There is no doubt come October the Rangers will be in the playoffs.

I thought this was Texas Rangers baseball. You know... when the team chokes.

We now know 162 Games don't mean any thing, ask The Cardnials, it's the last 7 that count, so What is Texas Ranger Baseball?

Ummm....3 weeks? Just 7 days ago the Rangers we're putting the finishing touches on a 3 game sweep of my Jays, outscoring them 34-16. Gee, I'd kill for that kind of "sloppy" play!

gotta agree with patriots4ever as I am a huge jays fan (based in the UK) and the rangers shut us DOWNNNN...it was messy - although JAys are not that great if you go by ESPN's power rankings who have consistenly had us in the bottom 5-10 teams in the league! ESPN prooving once again there is no bias...ha

Ask StupidMoron - he knows for sure.

1. agressive base running (best in baseball ) 2. sp keep team in the game w chance to win (top 5 sp staff in american league, best bullpen in baseball) 3. good defense (good left side and up the middle) 4. agressive hitting (best lineup in baseball).......rangers ae playing .500 ball and in a slump, when they get out of slump.....game over for all pretenders

June 4, 2012  10:30 AM ET

Hamilton is a few days away from the DL and it's .500 the rest of the way.

THE catcher shouldn't argument a issue that he would never win against the umpire!!!
