Debating value of Big East TV deal

10:18 AM ET 06.03 | Big East leaders have tried to project an aura of confidence during the past month, but their smiles all hinge on one big bet. The conference is poised to begin negotiations for a new television contract in September that will likely have a dramatic impact on the league's future. The Big East needs a multibillion-dollar media-rights deal to serve as the glue for a reformed conference slated to stretch from Orlando to Boise, Idaho, and Storrs, Conn., to San Diego. CBSSports.com cited anonymous sources suggesting the payout for the Big East's all-sports members could be as little as $4 million. The website questioned how new schools worth less in Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference could earn more money in the Big East.

These all sports teams are not going to realize much of that 4 million because of high travel expenses from coast to coast.
