NASCAR may loosen test ban

10:56 AM ET 06.03 | With a new Sprint Cup car coming in 2013 and an effort afoot to improve the product on the track, NASCAR is looking to add additional tests to next year's schedule. The current testing ban was announced at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November 2008 for the following season as part of the sanctioning body's effort at cost containment. Since then, testing has picked up as Goodyear rolls out new tire combinations for existing tracks or after tracks were repaved. However, NASCAR is now considering lightening the ban - if it's amenable to teams. Adding five to seven test dates was one of several topics that have been broached with team "business types," according to vice president of competition Robin Pemberton.

get rid of the testing ban all together.. it was made to cut costs for smaller teams, but they're never going to win anyway.

no they're not. I wish they would. IMO nascar would be soooooo much better if they did, but instead we have the question of is it gonna be hendrick roush or gibbs this week. Same rerun.

It didn't accomplish what it was intended to do -- teams tested at other non-NASCAR tracks ... now the owners of NASCAR tracks are cryin' because their losing testing $$ ...

agree 100%. the small teams will never win, but it would give the mid level teams at least a chance to become more competitive.. the rich would get richer with the big teams but at leat the quality of racing would improve..

Hendrick looked that strong. Gordon may have won without trouble, jr had a top 5 car. Hendrick is a step above everyone else right now. The horsepower those cars have is silly.
