08:17 AM ET 06.04 | The number 415 is very important to Roy Halladay, and yet he's getting farther from it by the day. [Halladay] stint on the disabled list is going to cost him more than six to eight weeks. It seems likely to cost him his $20 million vesting option in 2014. Halladay agreed to a club-friendly, three-year, $60 million contract extension from the Phillies before they acquired him from the Toronto Blue Jays in December 2009. The deal included a $20 million vesting option for 2014 that was not easy to reach even before he got hurt. The option says Halladay must reach each of the following criteria: throw 415 innings in 2012-13, 225 innings in 2013 and not finish 2013 on the disabled list. Missing up to two months this season will make it extremely difficult to hit the 415-inning mark.

Sorry Doc. Love ya, but that is the reason they give options in contracts (or should) in multi year deals to aging veterans.

Maybe all of us who give their opinions on these articles can take up a donation for his lose.

It's a loss not a lose.

So instead of getting the option from the Phillies, he will a free agent, and some other team will give him the $20M. As long as he's healthy and still going strong, he won't lose anything.

.....last place team....who cares....

June 4, 2012  09:54 AM ET

His career could end today and he'll have more money than he'll ever know what to do with.

Hey it's not like Philly proposed impossible marks for Doc to hit. It looks reasonable given Doc's stature and past performance and it also gave some protection to the team. Doc must have thought it was reasonable as well because he signed on the dotted line.

If he plays the way he did before the injury the $20M will be there in 2014, even if its with another team...

Manuel should allow roy halladay to start in every other game, that could be the right thing so he would be able to achieve his goals,,

I think you spelled "I" incorrectly.

If he's genuinely been hurt since March, which seems possible considering how he's pitched, I'm more upset about the fact that he threw hurt for 3 months than I am that he'll miss 2.
