08:23 AM ET 06.04 | Byron Buxton, Mark Appel, Kyle Zimmer and Kevin Gausman are names worth remembering, but baseball's amateur draft Monday doesn't have industry insiders all that excited. "There doesn't seem to be as much depth to this draft as there were with others," Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said. "Hopefully, we'll get a few good players." ... Whether the Orioles get one of those elite players may depend on what the teams ahead of them -- the Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners -- do. "Right away, it gets very shallow as far as talent and upside," [Orioles couting director Gary Rajsich] said. "Without giving you a specific number, there are very few [exceptional players available]."

Indeed, but Duquette will find talent then trade it for pennies.

The baseball draft is in a world of its own. Most of the other sports draft for now but baseball drafts for down the road . Most likely all of the kids drafted only about 10 to 15 per cent make it to the big show.

Just because somebody is not currently exceptional doesn't mean that they couldn't become exceptional. People develop at different rates.
