Three remaining candidates in Montreal

08:28 AM ET 06.04 | With Bob Hartley off the big board, to whom will Montreal turn in its coaching search? [Marc Crawford] and Michel Therrien are considered the strongest candidates for the vacant Montreal post, but Patrick Roy, the flamboyant former Canadiens goaltender and current coowner, general manager and coach of the QMJHL Quebec Remparts, is still in the mix. ... Crawford believes he doesn't have to ask for a job. He became the youngest coach to win the Jack Adams Trophy with Quebec in 1995 and won the Stanley Cup the following year when the franchise moved to Denver. But he was also fired by Vancouver, Los Angeles and Dallas. Therrien suffered the same fate in Montreal and Pittsburgh but got the Penguins to the 2008 Cup final.

Sounds like if either of these three get hired Cirque du Soleil won't be the only circus in town. Seriously though, what could possible be appealing about re-hiring Therrien?

Guessing the better coaches out there are all still waiting on the Edmonton job, given its far greater appeal and lack of need to learn the language of cartoon skunks.

Also, maybe Ron Wilson lost his cell phone and hasn't been able to respond to the job offer Montreal sent his way already?

here's an interesting idea....TRY SOMEONE NEW!!!! This merry-go-round is insane.
It seems to work okay when someone who hasn't coached almost every team in the NHL gets a shot: Bylsma, Deboer...they seem okay.
the only exception I'd make, and only because it's this team...Larry Robinson. He would be the way to go here

There is absolutely no truth to this article PM was not mentioned and we all know he will be the next coach.

I would like to see Pierre Maguire be the new coach A) get him off of NBC and B) see how he likes a microphone shoved in his face in the middle of a game....(Mike Babcock)

I'm still amazed that a team with the history of Montreal can't come up with better coaching options. Like Spiny said, try someone new. Find an AHL coach who is good and hire him.

Just because somebody's pitching a tent it doesn't make it a circus.

I heard there was a Jacques Lemaire sighting at the Bell Centre.

Ummmm.....I think PM likes having things shoved in his face.

And, the winner is .............. Patrick Roy! Let's put the clock and dagger mystery to rest. Just keep the dagger! It'll come in handy when the Habs start sucking again.

I'll let Sean Burke summarize McGuire's 67 games as head coach of the Hartford Whalers:

???He had some very interesting strategies I hadn???t seen then, and I haven???t seen them since.???

You'll get to hear him say "Deep depth" again.

So I just typed "Pierre McGuire is" into Google Instant and the choices Google returns are "an idiot", "creepy", and possibly my all-time favorite description, a "**** canoe." High comedy.
