Devils delusional?

08:27 AM ET 06.05 | After Game 3, Devils players expressed little in the way of resgintion, instead citing merely the hard work of their uphill climb. See, here's the thing: If the Devils truly believe they worked to maximum effort last night, if they believe that other for a break or two they could have won this Game 3 that turned out to be a 4-0 rout for the Kings, then they have no hope at all in [Wednesday] night's Game 4. ... Because, seriously, no one could mistake the display of committed hockey for half a game while going 0-for-7 on the power play through 40:30 (and overall) for "playing well." The Devils have scored two goals in three games covering 201:25 of the finals, one by defenseman Anton Volchenkov on a carom off a King, one by fourth-liner Ryan Carter.

I didn't see or read any of these comments attributed to the Devils players after the game, but I have to believe that they are just doing what highly competitive athletes usually do. They said they gave it their all and it wasn't good enough.

I have a hard time having a problem with that as long as no one went the route of your typical Steeler or Ravens player and claimed that the better team didn't win.

A couple of notes from last night:
I think L.A. was flying...maybe 1st game at home, but they sure looked like they had an extra gear..
What the heck happened to their D-men?
Man that Kopitar can play
Marty played "The Full Marty" last night. His own man took him down (d-man hit his left skate/leg and down he went) he kvetches at the official, and imagine my surprise, there's a goaltender interference call a few minutes later. (he was never touched on the play of course...which didn't stop his falling down) And then, one of the Devs, (can't recall who) skates into Quick's leg from behind, a serious and not at all safe play, and....wait for it... no call.....

June 5, 2012  08:41 AM ET

I did watch the 2nd and 3rd periods though and the Kings were in control in a big way. Barring a major letdown by L.A. I think we'll all be looking for some other sports entertainment on Thursday, because the hockey season will be over.

Even with those two incidents, I am having a hard time faulting the officiating in this series. They have for the most part let the boys play and it helps that these two teams typically play a relatively clean game. Except for Danius Zubrus, I'd like to smack that prick right upside his head.

LA owned that game. From the first drop of the puck. The Devils looked absolutely gassed out there.

RE: The G Interference, I thought that was BS too. Marty barely got touched and he goes down for a penalty yet Quick goes skate on skate with somebody and there was no call. It's so odd but sometimes I think the officials try and keep the score close by not calling penalties and calling others. "Oh we feel bad for NJ so lets give them a PP". It's just strange.

Don't know how gassed they looked, but they sure looked rersigned to their supposed fate

This article is actually stupid since he should be referencing Game 2 and Game 1, NOT game 3 with the comment about "break or two". Game 2, Kovalchuk nails the cross bar that easily could've been the winner.....but let me guess is Brooks the author?

What's up with the 2 days off between the 2 games played in Dirty Jerz; but only 1 day off to travel from East Coast to West Coast?

no concerts

For the Devils, it was done after the failed 5-on-3... You could see it in their body language.

I talked to a friend about this the other day. Jersey really had their chances in the first two games and I couldn't/wouldn't argue with anyone who said the outplayed the Kings a bit. We kinda felt that the Devils played as well as they could and still came up short which did not bode well for them heading out to Los Angeles.

Exactly.....I actually had a very similar conversation with a NJD fan at work here after I hung a broom in his cube.

NJD had good chances but didnt capitalize and then the Kings bury their chances. Last night was the flood gates opening after that 1st goal.

Clarkson had some chances but couldnt finish....

Exactly. Not only didn't they score, they really didn't even get a lot of pressure on Quick. Laterin the game I don't know if they were gassed or they just accepted that they weren't going to beat the Kings.

I don't know about the comments attributed to the Devils players, but it sounds like the PC stuff you expect to hear out of a team that is in a 3-0 hole.

Apparently nobody in Jersey thought they would get this far and scheduled a concert. Which is what caused the 2 days between the first two games

Yeah, I think a total of 3 shots on that 5-3

Wonder how the Flyers fans feel watching Carter get the GW the other night and then watching him pot another one last night on a pretty feed from Richards?
