08:10 AM ET 06.06 | Just what kind of payday is Drew Brees after? Widespread reports over the past several months have pegged the Saints' offer at $18 million per year, with Brees' demands north of $21 million. Some accounts have put Brees' expectations at $23 million annually. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, that's not the case. Brees, we're told, has never asked for $21 million. And the Saints are believed to be offering more than $18 million, possibly closer to $19 million than $18 million. Last month, Brees hinted that the demands attributed to him have been overstated. ... So if the gap is closer than reported, why hasn't the deal gotten done?

It's the pollen. It's everywhere. While we're all focused on Planet of the Apes and Zombies, the Plant Kingdom is quietly building cell walls and preparing to take over.

Just another case of it will get done but you have to make noise before it happens.

In truth, yeah. Come back when you've got some news.

I can't really say that I gave Drew or the Saints any thought at all. Does that make me a bad person?

June 6, 2012  08:54 AM ET

Maybe he doesn't want to play this year. After "Choirboy" is done gutting the team there isn't much point in it. Hold out until the last minute to get credit for the season, stay healthy and plan for free agency next year. If the Saints try to franchise you do it again next year.

Shouldn't they have about $6M available since they aren't paying Payton this season?

I thought his salary was to be donated to charity this year.

Is HC salary part of the cap? Can't be. He's not in the NFLPA.

I think he's in the NOSPA. New Orleans Saints PAYERS Association.
