Prepare for hurt feelings in San Francisco

08:11 AM ET 06.07 | Tom Rathman sees some hurt feelings in his crystal ball in San Francisco, where running back has been a one-man show since the 2006 season. That's when Frank Gore took over as San Francisco's featured runner, and he's taken the lion's share of the carries since then. This year, that solo act promises to give way to an ensemble cast. The problem is that there's not a role for everyone. "I don't know if everyone's going to be happy with the time that they get," Rathman, the team's running backs coach, said. ... During the offseason, the 49ers brought in veteran Brandon Jacobs during free agency and used a second-round draft pick on LaMichael James.

This is the NFL, there's a pretty good possibility one of em's gonna get hurt througout the course of the season, if not preseason. I doubt this will be a serious issue, whether the 49ers can repeat the magic from last season will be the real issue.

More media hype. The only hurt feelings that may come out of that roster are Jacobs and if he wants to complain I'm sure Harbaugh will have no problem telling him to shut up.

RB is one position that can have a fall off like no other. Good idea to have others available and give Frank some rest to last through the playoffs if they get there. The best back will earn the majority of the carries.

Once they start winning, all will be fine and everyone still on the team will be happy. But, they are still in the NFC West, so the real test will be how they perform against teams outside their division.

Never trust a man with a smile like Harbaugh's. He will be a good used car salesman some day.

On the nose, LSN. Gore's No. 1. Period. Jacobs is used to sharing anyway. James will be fine. The others are really not in the mix. "Hurt feelings" is the hype of the T&R people: what Rathman means is that the backs are eager to play: coachy boiler-plate crapola. The article is certainly crappily written though.
