Encouraging signs in Martinez's pain-free rehab

08:19 AM ET 06.07 | Victor Martinez isn't quite to the point of running, but he said earlier this week that he was "walking really good." [Martinez is agile enough] to have been on the catching end of a rundown game featuring Prince Fielder's two young sons in the clubhouse Tuesday. Nothing strenuous, mind you. Nothing that could lead to a wrong step. But with his music blaring from his locker, and Martinez having some fun, it was easy to see he's come a long way in his recovery from knee surgery. What encourages Martinez on a daily basis is the anticipation of being able to help the Tigers as an active player in September. "I haven't felt any pain during my whole rehab," said Martinez, who hopes to get thumbs up from doctors to start running at the end of June. "I'll be getting an MRI on the 28th."

Please don't rush him back, he alone can't save this embarrassing team from going down in flames, only God and Mike Illitch can save us now....

Might not matter. They horrible on defense, mediocre on offense and the pitching has been pretty bad. They need to trade for a 2nd basemen and a corner OFer. Injuries have hurt them as well with Austin Jackson (hitting around .320 at the time), Fister, Avila and Dirks (hitting over .300) all hurt. Problem is the organization has not depth in the minors... thank you Dave D.

Martinez is a DH now. The Tigers need a helluva lot more than another bat... this defense has been beyond abysmal, and it has nothing to do with Cabrera at 3B.

Yeah - I don't see him squatting behind a plate this year if he does make it back, and I doubt he'll catch much for the balance of his career.
