08:20 AM ET 06.07 | Nearly a year to the day he had Tommy John elbow surgery, Daisuke Matsuzaka will return to the mound for the Red Sox, taking Daniel Bard's spot in the lineup. The Sox are planning to activate Matsuzaka off the disabled list and start him against the Washington Nationals Saturday afternoon. ... Matsuzaka made six minor league rehabilitation starts, going 0-3 with a 3.65 earned run average. He totaled 37 innings and gave up 31 hits with nine walks and 30 strikeouts. As is often the case, Matsuzaka had problems with high pitch counts and at one point had his rehab assignment stopped because of a problem with a neck muscle. "He says he feels fine," manager Bobby Valentine said after speaking to Matsuzaka.

why do the interns insist on giving us pictures of the "manager" and not the player the story is about?

I was surprised that Dice-K's record wasn't as bad as everyone lets on and he's going to be replacing a kid who's a number 5 starter and was very inconsitant so he doesn't have a whole lot of pressure on him. No one expects a number 5 starter to be an ace so this could work out. At this point the Sox have nothing to lose with this move.

I don't think they have any alternative but to use Dice K. It seems like he's been rehabbing down in triple AAA for months on end now.

Coming back from Tommy John surgery is a slow process and the original estimates was June or July so he's right on track. I do wonder what became of Aaron Cook? He had the one start, got hurt in the 2nd inning and nothing else was said about him.
