And now the pressure mounts on Tambellini

08:31 AM ET 06.07 | Steve Tambellini welcomes the challenge of trying to dig out from under some bad contracts, and he has officially re-upped with the Oilers. Until now, there really haven't been any expectations on Tambellini, other than getting the team out of those bad contracts and rid of underachieving players. ... Having recently let go of his third coach in four years, and holding the first overall pick for the third consecutive summer due to some luck at the lottery, the accountability now rests squarely on Tambellini. He has taken his time hiring his next head coach, knowing full well that if it doesn't work out, the two of them could be cleaning their offices out together.

Well Kevin Lowe is still under contract so it's from top to bottom

I passed through Edmonton once, years back. I have to say that I can't recall much about it though.

Probably should think about it the other way.....Get a good coach for these young kids to help them develop as players in the NHL, make the 2nd season and the pressure might back off.....then build out from there...

A fun team to watch - but now they have to start putting the wins together. Up front they are loaded, but goaltending is what steals you the wins.

I am Calgary born and raised. I spent ten years of my life working in Edmonton. I know it is a City of hard working and "real" people. The River Valley recreation area is absolutely beautiful also. The people cheer for horrible teams ;-) but the City itself is excellent.

Tambellini took a big hit with the way Renney was left hanging.. Even though his contract was about to expire they gave him another years salary as a farewell. I'm not a Tambellini fan but I credit him and the Oilers for making that happen.

What you say is true HC especially about the teams :-). I can understand some of the negative things people say about Edmonton. The city has allowed some of the ugliest architecture to go up and have allowed beautiful and historic buildings torn down. We have had some of the most backward thinking people runnig the town for years. The hope is the new arena and district that goes along with it will rejuvinate downtown. If that dosen't work the very least that comes of it is the Oilers will have a new place to fly all those banners that they have and are going to have :-)

You'll be sorry...

Come to BC instead.

I passed through Lloydminster once as well. I think it was in Alberta. Or, maybe it was in Saskatchewan. Damn it, I think it was both...but not at the same time.

Calgary and the Rockies are what you need Spiny. Hank's invite includes a provincial sales tax on everything you buy in British Socialist Columbia ;-)

As opposed to a sales tax free dust bowl.

I'll take green BC any day of the week. Oceans, mountains trees, real fish, not the minnows they call fish in Alberta.....
