Cal has a star on its hands

08:17 AM ET 06.08 | At 6-foot-3 and more than 200 pounds, there's a whole lot to like about Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen. [Allen] isn't just a big body who can box out corners and win down the seam on vertical routes. He's also a guy who showcases an explosive first step for his size and natural balance and coordination as a route runner. He looks to have the skill set to run the entire route tree at the next level and should mature into a bonafide "X" receiver. He needs to improve his concentration and do a better job catching the football consistently. However, physically the guy has the entire skill set to win off the line, separate on just about any route and create with the ball in his hands.

And the ducks and trogans will still eat their breakfast too. Probably Wa State will too.

The problem for Cal is their idiot QB, the half-brother of Allen. Allen is a premier NFL WR in the making. Zach Maynard is an undisciplined QB who shouldn't be running the show. His athleticism papers over his bad decision-making and failures to make even simple throws sometimes. But Tedford is full of ego and when he decides you're it, you're it. Count on Maynard to lose games with interceptions this year and, if they're enough, to see Tedford shown the door. Tedford's teams have been loaded with heralded and unheralded talent like Allen and he's squandered the talent. It's this year or exit, Jeff. Better step it up.

He was a 5 star. He should be a "star". The fact that there was any question makes me wonder if he made the right choice in schools. **grin**.

He didnt have a committable offer from you all

Are you kidding? Bama offers every 4/5 star kid.....the problem was they couldn't either cut someone else, or this kid wouldn't gray shirt.

Yes, he did. He was committed. We wanted him. His brother did not, though. We offered his brother a no-shirt.

You don't have any idea what you're talking about regarding this kid. LUS was joking. He was on the team and was one of our top recruits.

Everyone is physical at the next level but if you can't be the total package all they will say to you is bring me your playbook.

I believe Cal's D has been their strong point in recent yrs. especially at Memorial stadium...their O on the other hand, (and KA) have needed a competant QB for yrs. With their recent recruiting I expect them to be tougher sooner rather than later. I believe UO plays Cal in Cal game after UO/SC this season, which could prove to be an upset game if UO is high on a win or down on a loss.

Allen-Sofele-Maynard trio picked fifth most potent offensively by Hugenin at Rivals. Depending on Maynard, they can be good. They will miss Marvin Jones, though, unless someone steps up.

Very good defense, anchored last year by Mychal Kendricks with Trevor Guyton up front. Allen has actually pushed for Maynard, his half-brother to start, and, in fairness to Tedford, Allen may have old Jeff over a barrel. I really don't see the Golden Bears being a factor this year in the PAC 12 because of a very inconsisent, erratic Maynard who can actually lose games singlehandedly with his mistakes.
