Another no-hitter saved by lack of replay?

10:47 AM ET 06.09 | Just like in Johan Santana's no-hitter, a close play that could have been overturned by replay loomed large in Seattle's combined no-hitter against the Dodgers on Friday night. Dee Gordon, maybe the National League's fastest player, led off the bottom of the ninth with a broken-bat flare to shortstop against Tom Wilhelmsen. Brendan Ryan, just in the game as a defensive replacement, grabbed the ball and made a strong throw to first, getting the out call. Replay, however, showed that Gordon may have beaten the relay. In this case, the evidence wasn't so solid as last week's fair-foul call on what should have been a Carlos Beltran double. The play at first base was so close there's a good chance it wouldn't have been overturned on whatever replay system baseball eventually implements.

So...the play is further support for instant replay even though it wasn't necessarily a bad call? Ok.

I wonder how many of the games no hitters had a bad call in the game somewhere? I don't care, it they like zeros in the hit column.

I think things like this are good in the sense that the more missed calls that start piling up, the sooner baseball will be forced to do what they should have done years ago. Either allow for replay on any game-changing play or allow the manager to have two challenges to use when he wants like football

to fix all this bad calls?? the replay its a 100% needed, too many wrong calls, too many undeserved rewards and those rewards aren't clean because all this dark spots in the no hitter thing!!

How does one decide that a particular play is "game changing"? Does it have to have the potential to change the outcome of the game? If so, that eliminates the Beltran "hit" on the Santana no-hitter and the missed call on the Galarraga not-quite perfect game.

Leave it like it is and play on. It has been that way for centuries and it still works and it is America's game.

Great idea, two challenges per team and a third one allowed if the first two are correct.
And Gordon was SAFE!!! but the ump got caught up in the "no-hitter" hype so called him 'out'. At the very least it was a tie, and tie goes to the runner. Only a partial ump (or giant fan) would've made such a bad call.

Hmmm, what are you doing here is the real question; shouldn't you be drinking some fruity drink with an umbrella in it at the Rainbow Bar with your boyfriend right now.

You've given this a lot of thought. I guess those old prison habits die hard.
