Will Yzerman relax restricted offer stance?

11:13 AM ET 06.10 | Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said he doesn't like using offer sheets to lure players from an opponent, and it has nothing to do with the idea fellow GMs would look unfavorably at the maneuver. Nope, the way Yzerman sees it, with offer sheets, "you're just screwing up your own pay structure." "The only way a team doesn't match the offer is if you grossly overpay the player," he said. "That's why I don't like it. If you do a contract for the right value of a player, chances are the other team is just going to match it." It is an interesting discussion given chatter last week that teams might go the offer-sheet route with Canucks goalie Cory Schneider. A report in Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper even singled out the Lightning as a possibility.

Although I think alot of players are overpaid, sometimes you have to give a little more for incentive, although Florida would seem enough. Well except for the gators. They didn't want to pay Smithy, and for 4M over 2 years he got the Yotes to the third round.

Well he didn't play well in Tampa hence they brought in Roloson now it's clear the problem is Boucher's system

Like to see Steve 'step down' and coach, he was a good 'C' and I think the players would listen to him as HC

Not only do they overpay but, they also give up a ton of 1st round picks. Unless it's a player like Mario Lemieux, definitely not worth it.

Smith was hurt most of the time here in Tampa. The Defense has not been good. We need a goalie that the defensemen can trust and nto worry about someoen gettgin by and scoring everytime the other team comes down the ice. Our goalies did not make the simple saves and the Defense lost trust in them.
