Rivers in Philly has potential

08:12 AM ET 06.11 | Things could get interesting in the Rivers family, as Doc and his son, Austin, are likely to wind up on opposite sides next season -- it's just a matter of how often they'll play against each other. Some mock drafts have the Sixers taking the 6-4 shooting guard with their No. 15 selection in the June 28 draft. That would set up several intriguing in-season Atlantic Division clashes with Rivers' father, Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. ... Austin Rivers, 19, opted for the 2012 draft after one Blue Devils season where he averaged 15.5 points per game ??? a move fully supported by his dad. Duke went 29-7 and was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in its opening game by No. 15 seed Lehigh.

It's because who his father is.

I would rather have Waiters if we must go SG. This move only makes since if we can move Elton Brand or Iggy, for either a definite go to player/scorer or low post threat. There is already a log jam of iso heavy PG's, SG and SF. They need an upgrade in the post game our PF's and C are primarily pick and pop jump shooters.
PG Holiday
PG/SG Lou Williams
SG/SF Iggy
SG/SF Turner
All provide the same type of role in this offense none are very consistent jump shooters Lou Williams being the best. Rivers technically fits our system and should be a good shooter but we have other needs. I will reserve judgment until the Sixers decide what they are doing with Iggy, Hawes and Brand

I know you like the Celtics but lets not get carried away here. This kid will infatically not be the ROY. He has a great upside but he's a year away from handling the NBA's physicality and the NBA knowhow won't be instantly for Rivers. You also have Kid-Gilchrist, Davis, and Thomas who are more NBA ready and will be more impactfull IMO. Although you do have your opinon, I just think this ROY thing is laced with zeal and Rivers partiality!

Jgb,
I don't know I can see Hawes asking for 8-10 Million/yr and I don't know if the Sixers want to pay him that much he is an average center but will probably get a deal in this range. The thing that stood out to me is Doug Collins was playing the rookie Allen in crunch time minutes in the playoffs against the Celtics not Hawes. We still have Vucevic as well who is more of face up shooter as well.

No way. He can talk and shoot. But he isn't ready to play with the big boys yet.

Rivers in Philly is NOT happening.
Doc is a great coach but the Sixers have a good coach in Doug Collins...they are not making any changes there.
Rivers has his pick of any available job for sure, heck, I would love to see him in Miami...but, teams do not want to pay old coaches and then a new one as well.
He is best off finishing up with the Celts and watch those guys retire.

Doesn't Lou have an opt-clause this season? If so, I don't think he will be back either. Potentially, we would lose Iggy (trade), Brand (amnesty), Lou (opt-out), Hawes, Nocioni & slew of others (free agency).

This kid is not ready. Anyone that thinks he'll take minutes from Evan Turner or Jrue Holiday needs a reality check. Potential isn't worth anything at this point. He probably wouldn't even be taken seriously if he weren't Doc's son.

Yes,
Lou has a player option. I think he will be back. Iggy: trade probably needs to be done for a more consistent #1 scorer. I wouldn't be mad or dissapointed if he wasn't though as he is not under contract for a long time. Brand: Amnesty or trade if someone wants to get into the mix to bring in better players. Hawes: stays or leaves depending on how much he asks for and depends on if the Sixers can trade for other players will
