Who will Edmonton take at No. 1?

08:24 AM ET 06.11 | Yet again, the Oilers are picking first in the draft, which doesn't mean it gets any easier. I'd say it's a 60-40 chance the Oilers take winger Nail Yakupov and not defenceman Ryan Murray -- if you asked the Oilers fan base they'd go that way, too -- but not everybody agrees. "From what I understand the other guy is a hell of a player, but my gut tells me the Oilers will take Ryan. For sure, he'll be a top-two defenceman in the NHL. My comparison is Ray Bourque. Same size physically and in hockey sense," said Murray's former Everett Silvertips GM and NHL goalie Doug Soetaert, who had separate talks with Tambellini and Kevin Lowe at Rexall Place one night. "I'm biased, but I saw Ryan for three years, every game. He creates offence."

Take the player that is best for your team. I'd be a little wary to take a Russian with the first pick, given their propensity to bolt to the KHL.

you see, some teams without an Irked Pres/GM/Dark Sith Lord have these other types of players that are "role players" And I mean other, as in other than overpaid and underperforming, something we Rangers' fans are familiar with as well

Trade down to CBJ, get another prospect and take the Dman. Do they have great goaltending and defensive prospects? I know they have a few solid D prospects but are any supposed to be top pairing players?

if yakupov is head & heels over anyone else then they either gotta take him or trade the pick...but if its naything even remotely close, the Oilers NEED a quality d-man. Personnally If I was Edmonton I'd trade the pick to Columbus so that I can get Wilson & some d on the farm system in columbus (too lazy to see what Columbus has in the tap...but I figure they gotta have at least one good prospect). They'd get a much needed future blue liner and they'd increase their depth.

I don't think Edmonton wants Nail. They want a defenseman, and fell in love in Murray in the World Championships.
I also don't think Columbus wants Nail. They are probably too scared off drafting Russians.

All reports say Yakupov is by far the best player available so it's a no brainer the Oilers take him.
Also I agree with Argos Columbus would rather not be forced to draft another Russian

Nope. What you will hear next year is the Toronto Maple Leafs have traded the number 1 pick to Boston for Tim Thomas.

If Edmonton wants to win something before all these youngin's get old and grey they better come up with a defenseman who is already worth his salt.
Somebody who is already developed. Waiting on a rookie d-man will take too long.
