08:01 AM ET 06.12 | Jake Ballard knew the odds of his returning, after a torn ACL suffered in Super Bowl XLVI, for the 2012 season were long. But he's still intent on returning to the Giants in 2013. His season officially ended on Monday when he failed his pre-minicamp physical and was promptly waived by the defending champs. Once he clears waivers, it's expected that he will be added to the Giants' physically unable to perform (PUP) reserves list, which would allow the Giants to retain his rights until next season while clearing a spot on the 90-man roster. ... Ballard was a big bright spot for the Giants last season, filling a huge void at tight end by playing in 14 regular season games and caught a surprising 38 passes for 604 yards and four touchdowns.

But what about Little Timmy? Is Tebow ok?

June 12, 2012  08:09 AM ET

Giants always seem to start off the year with a lot of injuries. Hakeem Nicks is already out for 3 months with a broken bone in his foot.

Tough break. Hope he has an opportunity to get back in the game.

Worst union in professional sports. This guy left it on the field for the Giants during a Super Bowl run. No pay day for him.

Isn't a Giant Tight End an oxymoron?

June 12, 2012  08:27 AM ET

Giants have a BIG weakness in their tight end position..he's called Marty B. Good luck Giants fans watching that p.o.c. be useless.

I think guys on the PUP list get paid. They can participate in team meetings, but not practice.

I think you're trying to "help" Jim in Houston, however you've only confused him more.

Good Morning Boys, do you remember what's his name (Kevin Boss) before Ballard, they said when the Giants lost him they were dead meat, when Smith went to Chiladelphia, that really dealer ther fate, but most of all they also lost two starters on the offensive line and they started to dig the burial plots in the Cemetery, well they left out the quarterback spot and my gash, who won the super bowl!!! They only team that will beat The Giants, are The Giants!!! Go Blue!!!

And they'll do it, too!

Hail to the Redskins!

Eli likes to look for the TE. this kid will be welcome with open arms if he can make it back. The anti-Shockey: he blocks, makes plays, and keeps hois mouth shut.

I wish him well

Mike Singletary used Bear Pascoe for one day's worth of practice--decided that he was a bum--let him go..The Giant's picked him up, & he's turned into a valuable Tight End--Full back--& scored a TD against the Niners in the Playoffs ...

So much for Coach Singletary..

You are right about him as a receiving TE. The thing is this, he was big in the cowboys running game, that is where he will be missed there, and the reason the Giants had any interest in him at all. They were the worst running team in the NFL.

He showed up for camp weighing 290 lbs. coaches NOT HAPPY about that. Pulled a hammy first practice. Maybe they should just beef him up to 300 and make him a guard.
