Memphians fear new owner's motivations

08:04 AM ET 06.12 | Michael Heisley is selling, and it's a fan base in Memphis that may have trouble doing any buying. Extend the lease. That's all Robert Pera would have to do to reassure nervous Memphians. Extend the lease that binds the team to FedExForum. Right now, the lease says the team can't move until 2021. Make it 2031 and the citizenry would throw a parade for the guy. ... Just like that, all the skepticism would disappear. Memphians would rush to embrace the new owner. Mike Heisley says he's found someone to buy the Grizzlies "who has expressed a total commitment to Memphis?" Then a longer deal should be no problem. And if this all sounds like I'd like some assurances before I join Heisley in his happy dance, well, that's because I covered the Affair de Laettner.

Lets see......Tennessee home to the Grand Ole Oprah and exactly what else in sports? Oh, this might insult Vols fans......I'm sorry Vols, you do have history but I don't know about much else sports wise.

Now we're talking about leases twenty years out?

Hey now you guys know how Vancouver felt when Heisley stole the Grizzlies away. Move the team back to Vancouver.

Come Back To Seattle Bro

Uh......Vancouver, Bro (smh)

...and drop the Grizzly.

I'd like to see them 'buy' the name "Jazz" from the Utah franchise (nothing 'Jazzy' in Utah, anyway) and see Utah get a new nick-name.

I'd saying buying a team you cannot move for 9 years is already a "commitment".... Yeah those dozens and dozens of Grizzlies fans are on pins and needles waiting, just waiting for them to extend the least 10 more years.....

June 12, 2012  11:38 AM ET

A) They should drop the name "Grizzlies;" it's as bad as "Jazz" in Utah and "Lakers" in L.A.
B) A new team shouldn't be put in Canada until the league figures out a way to make the players' tax situation at least competitive with other places.
C) Seattle should get a team, having lost theirs because of a conniving owner who shouldn't kiss his own loved ones with that mouth.

perfect, that gives San Diego more than ample time to build a new arena to replace that piece of junk on sports arena blvd. Grizzles - get ready to go surfing

Do you have a suggested name for Utah?
