New Senior Bowl wrinkle: Juniors

08:15 AM ET 06.12 | What's in a name? New Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage thinks the time may be right to consider allowing some juniors to play in the annual all-star game, but only if they meet certain strict criteria. Savage, who was hired last month and officially began his new duties on June 1, brought up the idea with NFL representatives last month and was told the league would consider it. Under Savage's idea, Senior bowl eligibility for players listed as juniors would be limited to those who meet four criteria: A player must declare early for the NFL draft, be graduated by December, be with a program for four years and have the blessing of his college coach.

Don't see why not. Would make for a better game anyway.

Senior Bowl is only slighty more important than the Pro Bowl...........

The actual bowl isn't, but the research done by scouts before the game is pretty important.

Let the juniors play in the sophomore bowl.

+1...feel the same about the combines.

I can't believe the pro scouts don't gather enough data watching them during their entire college career to make a decent decision.

Guess its no-longer the senior bowl. Its just a showcase game for the NFL anyways.

A Junior who meets those criteria is pretty much a senior anyways, so I'm OK with it.

They claim that having the pro coaching staffs working with them provides more of a pro environment within which to judge.

Not sure I buy that either, but it's an extra ballgame I get to watch, so it's all good.

The NFLazation of college football shifts into a higher gear.

I quit watching all-star games a couple of decades ago, football included. Never really saw any purpose to them. At least to watch.

Plainly, this just sucks.

Senior vs. Junior, just like the Teutel's in American Chopper.

"Senior bowl eligibility for players listed as juniors would be limited to those who meet four criteria: A player must declare early for the NFL draft, be graduated by December, be with a program for four years and have the blessing of his college coach."

If players have declared early for the draft, they likely don't need the Senior Bowl. And on that thought, if they have declared for the draft, why in hell would they need their college coach's blessing. I mean they declared, thus don't play for said coach anymore....

What if they let a junior play in this game...and not only does he not get drafted but doesn't even graduate from college?

A slap in the face to the seniors who earned their spot on this roster.

...........And completed all schoolwork.

This would have kept Mark Sanchez out of the Senior/Junior bowl!

It is a special reward game for those players who went the distance. Why don't we also bring back the game between the college all stars and Super Bowl winner.
