08:14 AM ET 06.13 | One wouldn't blame Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva for wanting to turn the page on 2012. After dealing with injuries for the entire lockout-shortened season for the Pistons -- he didn't play any significant minutes -- he won't play for the Dominican Republic national team because he's out of shape, head coach John Calipari said. "Charlie was not in good form when we saw him," Calipari told Deportes en la Z. "He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively. Last year, Charlie behaved really well with us and his only problem was his weight." Villanueva never was in camp with the team this summer, contrary to the FIBA.com report that said he had a private workout with the team in New York.

How's he different from Eddy Curry who's been on Miami's roster all season and still out of shape...

Eddie already recived his big contract (Knicks).

This season, he was signed a one year contract for the veteran's minimum which was about $1.3 million.

Plus.....I'd wager that Curry is currently in better shape/condition than Villanueva.

Bad enough Charlie looks the way he does... Bald head and all... Now he got the coach calling him Fat!

I'm not surprised by Villanueva getting cut since he's a fat loser. What I'm surprised about is why the hell Calipari is coaching the DR national team. Isn't he Italian-American??

He's a foreign national to the Domincan teams... it's not farfetched for Americans to seek employment in other countries... it's called outsourcing. It don't matter if you work for India or Indiana... one has to get paid!

Bela Karolyi (Google him if you don't know who he is.....) coached several U.S. Womens Gymnastics Teams in the Olympics and the World Championships.

What's your point?

Otis B. Driftwood....you are my favorite poster on here of all time. And as Pistons fan this revelation is the cherry on top of the poop sundae that has been this signing and his play here. It amazes me that people want to amnesty Ben Gordon when Gordon comes to play and does not arrive out of shape. He's just been ice cold for 19 months...but his shooting performance the last game tells me that his shot is returning.
