David Stern's new crusade

08:17 AM ET 06.13 | And now for something completely different: NBA commissioner David Stern taking the occasion of his pre-Finals press conference to not talk about the CBA. But, of course, there were still plenty of issues to be covered. Chief among them is the possibility of a rule change covering defensive flopping, which seems to be Stern's new crusade. Stern said that the refurbished competition committee will meet next Monday, and that flopping, as well as additional instances in which replay can be used, will be on the agenda. "'Flopping' almost doesn't do it justice," Stern said. "Trickery. Deceit. Designed to cause the game to be decided other than on its merits. We'll be looking at that."

I agree with this.

Improve the quality of the officiating. It calls the league's integrity into question. Some of these guys need to go and start with anyone named Crawford.

Is he going to do anything about the fact LeBron travels half the time he handles the ball? LeBron ought to be in the NFL the way he tucks the ball under his arm and drives to the hoop, three, four , five steps, it should be measured in yards gained, not points.

The NBA has become sloppy basketball, where players travel, double dribble, and commit offensive fouls constantly. 99% of games are decided by the officials.

The NBA has more in common with WWE than it does basketball. The basketball season ends in March.

Stern is hardly the right person to be talking about "causing the game to be decided other than on its merits."

Flopping has been around for a long time (anyone remember Vlade or Danny Schayes?). The NBA is going to have a hard time cracking down on this stuff because it's hard to police in game. The only other option is fining people after the games and then increasing the fines after each violation. But what's a flop??

The NBA has a ton of different things that drive people crazy...superstar calls, whiny players who apparently never foul anyone ever, and guaranteed contracts. Just add this one to the list.

There you go.

The officials are doing a crappy enough job right now with the obvious stuff. Now we're gonna get them into mind reading? This game and these athletes are too big and fast for three officials.

Just start calling it correctly. Once a player picks up the ball and picks his path to the basket you should not be able to jump in front of him and get a charging. That's how it used to be before the NBA got so international.

Maybe Stern can then apologize to and thank Frank Vogel for putting this out front-and-center. The Association should have been looking at this years ago, but it was never an emphasis until Coach called out Miami and got smacked down with a fine.

Thanks for riding in on your horse and acting like it's your idea, little guy.
