Newly hired MacTavish looms as distraction

08:37 AM ET 06.13 | If Craig MacTavish found a hard time breaking from the perception he was always an Oiler, his impact on the club going forward, as VP of hockey operations, is designed to cement that impact. "This isn't a junior position," said [GM Steve Tambellini]. "I expect Craig to be involved in all decisions of the hockey club." ... MacTavish may never get away from the perception that he's a fallback in case the head coach Tambellini hires in the next few weeks to replace Tom Renney doesn't pan out. Some people wonder if MacTavish could be in the wings if Tambellini, who just inked a multi-year extension, doesn't make significant improvement next season. For sure, he seems to be the heir apparent for Lowe's job, although Lowe is not leaving any time soon.

Kuhvin does like a Posse doesn't he ? So Kuhvin talks to the owner,Tambellini talks to Kuhvin,Mac T talks to Tambellini, and the still to be determined Coach talks to Mac T ?????? One heck of a lot of Cooks in that Kitchen.

I felt bad for him when he was fired. When you compare what MacT managed to accomplish with far less than the guys that were hired to replace him (Quinn + Renney), his firing was totally unjustified. Unless that was the plan all along: Get rid of MacT so they could get three #1 draft picks in a row. If that was the plan, Tambellini and Lowe are total geniuses. :-)

And, isn't this going to complicate their coaching search? Any person brought in for an interview is going to have to wonder how secure they will be with McT around.
