Ryan, Washington on opposite sides of Ross debate

08:22 AM ET 06.14 | In his tenure with the Rangers, Nolan Ryan has shown himself to be no Jerry Jones, even if he shares the opinion of many on Robbie Ross. But what Nolan constantly says, and then backs up those words, is he doesn't interfere with the work of his manager and his pitching coach. If asked, he has an opinion. If not asked, the manager and the pitching coach prevail. "My attitude is it's their call," Ryan said Wednesday, and when then asked for his opinion on where Ross should be pitching on Saturday, his answer was, "I've got mixed emotions." How mixed? Ryan: "I don't want [Ron Washington] to be limited in his bullpen. Moving Ross out of his current role could put Ron in a tough position. But yes, I think Ross could make the move to the rotation right now."

Actually - Ryan has the right attitude. If asked - he'll answer. He's a player with lots of experience and may be able to provide some nice additional input. But that's it. Take it for what's its worth. He doesn't want to be a distraction. If he's asked and clams up - then inference and other bad jobu sneaks in. He's playing it straight; as he should.
