08:28 AM ET 06.14 | A torn labrum in his left shoulder, suffered during Notre Dame's Blue-Gold Game, may put an end to junior safety Austin Collinsworth's season. [Collinsworth] has undergone shoulder surgery and is expected to miss a significant portion of -- if not the entire -- 2012 football season, ND director of football sports information Brian Hardin confirmed Wednesday. ... Recovery time is projected to be four to six months. The 6-1, 202-pound junior from Fort Thomas, Ky., collected 18 tackles last season in a reserve role and as a special teams standout. His role was expected to expand significantly this season, however, especially in nickel packages. There was even a thought he might start.

Will hurt against tSUN, ND will need safety and corner help chasing DR around.

Next man up! The Irish will find a way!

Go ND!

This hurts, only because its not a position of depth. If anything hurts more against a USC then tsun...Teo and the D Line will keep DR contained enough to force him to pass more then he is comfortable with.

Maybe next year

It's official, then. This is NOT the year ND is back.

However, I have to give fair warning that the phrase "Wait til next year" has been copyrighted by the University of Florida, so you guys have to flip us a quarter every time you use it this year. Thanks.

Exactly; let's get a grip, folks. This is a backup Safety, hardly a newsworthy story except for his parantage.
He is a good kid, but hardly irreplacable!

I hate it when that happens... I know it's life, but there is nothing worse than losing a guy for the whole year, before that year even began.
