Ravens take creative approach to replace Suggs

08:06 AM ET 06.14 | Not only do the Ravens have the sidebar concern that is Ed Reed, but also the absence of Terrell Suggs to overcome. The loss of [Suggs] is so significant, the Baltimore Ravens don't have one guy trying to replace him. They have two. At least they do now, and, yeah, I know, it's June. But it's a testament to what the loss of the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year means to one of the NFL's premier defenses that Baltimore has Paul Kruger and rookie Courtney Upshaw at his position. For the moment, Upshaw fills Suggs' weakside linebacker spot on first and second downs, while Kruger takes over for Jarret Johnson at the strongside position. Then, on third downs, they switch.

Excellent work again by the FN staff.

For those later in the day, this thread has the same story as the Cowboy thread.

Copy/paste. Nailed it.

I guess that using Tyron Smith of the Cowboys to plug up a hole in the Raven defense does qualify as a creative way to solve the problem.

The Summer Interns have been well trained already. They realize they'd get released if they did too good a job.

June 14, 2012  11:25 AM ET

So how are they going to do this when Dallas plays at the same time?
I mean, I thought the obvious step was cloning Suggs and having your own private army of Suggs in case of injury, not picking up Dallas' left tackle.

Wow, the approach was more creative than I ever imagined!

Anyway, it's possible they meant to link this article: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-minicamp-0614-20120 613,0,5936114.story
