Hudler eyeing greener pastures?

08:32 AM ET 06.14 | Drafted by the Red Wings in 2002, Jiri Hudler has a decision on his hands. He's never played any-where else in the NHL (except for a one-year hiatus to Russia) and seems to appreciate what he was with the Wings. But this is a rare opportunity. Coming off that 25-goal season, and with a thin free-agent market, Hudler (who can be an unrestricted free agent July 1), could be a highly sought-after player. "I would say so," said Petr Svoboda, Hudler's agent. "He's a player who can score goals. He's shown he can do that." But will Hudler be able to do so in another system, with the pressure of a big contract hovering over him while playing with less talented teammates? According to Svoboda, Hudler knows what he has with the Wings and would like to stay.

I want to add this "What the heck?" picture to my list of favs.
Actually, if you split the screen and put Torts' 3 Finger shot...It would say 'What the heck is he signaling over there?"

Why is there an assumption that he would be playing with less talented teammates?

Let this guy go

You're right. He'd have to way down the list to play with less talented players. Wherever he goes, he'll be pretty much among equals.

"I wonder when all the F/A's are coming, especially parise" is what he's thinking here

Nah. He's just worrying what he's going to do with all those great free agents coming to Detroit, including Parise.

Sounds like Ville Leino redux.

Cos the Red Wings are a pretty talented bunch. Old, but talented. It would be hard to find another team with someone like Datsyuk on it.

LOL. The dude in your avatar apparently did.

So how much is Detroit paying him?
That said, I think he should listen to his agent Petr on this one.

Concur.

Hudler will be the next in line to run away from the Dead Wings...

June 14, 2012  10:23 AM ET

"Hudler eyeing greener pastures?"

Or, maybe we can spin this as "I'm looking for a different opportunity" rather than "the Wings aren't going to re-up me." Who needs a goal scorer that doesn't play any defense? I know there's someone out there.

The exact reason the Wings won't have him back, unless substantial pay cut...$3 million. Yes, Jiri Hudler, $3 million. The arbitrator set this amount, average hit of $2.875 million over the two years that just ended.

Yes, he desparately needs to get out of this awful situation for him. It's like he was exiled to Siberia! Way to throw the Red Wings back to the early 80's,
