Stern becoming an embarrassment to the NBA

08:15 AM ET 06.15 | Even this lockout-shortened season has put a lot of extra miles on NBA folks. David Stern is pushing 70, tired, irritable and still surrounded with no one to tell him the truth. For all the young diva stars in the sport, no one has an entourage of yes men as deep as the NBA's commissioner. Rest assured, everyone told Stern how out of line Jim Rome was on Wednesday, that Stern's public tantrum was validated, that Stern justifiably defended his honor. Rest assured, no one dared tell the commissioner he needed to put the NBA above himself, stop the preening and let Kevin Durant and LeBron James be the stars of these Finals. No one dares tell Stern the ultimate truth that his ego, his vindictiveness, is an embarrassment to the league.

Rome asked a very legitimate question ... one that surely the Commissioner had to know was going to be asked at some point ... and his churlish response indicates either massive ego or massive unpreparedness. Either way, it reflects poorly on the Commish and the NBA.

The fact that Stern got upset about the question instead of just laughing it off doesn't exactly help his case of disproving the fix was in - it makes it seem like he doesnt want people digging any further.

Not that it surprises me though, I've thought Stern was a crook for years.

There is hardly ANY doubt that many aspects in the NBA are rigged. Officiating for one. I can bet a large cup of coffee that in Refs orientation, there are "subtle" messages on who gets the calls, what teams are "preferred", an dhow officials can 'add value" to the NBA by helping TV ratings aka making certain teams win, if possible.
NBA is a joke right now. Talent level is phenomenal, but calls, drafts, rules - pathetic.

Stern needs to be gone. In what other major sport has been a commissioner allowed two lockouts in ten years let alone two period. Especially after this summer when he was only putting the blame on the players. Agreed players were at fault but so were the owners and he never once put any blame on the owners. He needs to be gone.

i'm still shocked there hasn't been an investigation into NBA refs like baseball had with steroids and football with the bounty thing. altho i did like the NBA's response to steroids back in the day. "what? huh?? uuuuuuuh...why would our guys take steroids, it'd make them bulky and slow". haha, yeah right. steroids dont make you stronger and faster, suuure. genius, genius i say!

i think his defensive comments on that radio show proved he has a guilty conscience bout sumthing otherwise it wouldn't have bothered him that Jim asked it.

Way too late for that, he's been an embarrassment. They way he took such offense to rome's question proves that our suspicions were right and that it is rigged. If it isn't, do it on live TV like the powerball does instead of behind closed doors and just letting us know the results. If it isn't rigged, why do you have to hide the actual selection process instead of letting the public watch? It's a simple solution if it isn't rigged, and if it is rigged... well, we all know now anyway after this year's draft.

That's too easy.
