08:21 AM ET 06.15 | Considering they'll host the Yankees this weekend, the Nationals might just be further exposed as one of baseball's best stories in 2012. For all the attention that justifiably goes to Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg, it's possible that the key to putting the Nationals in first place in the National League East was winning the bidding for Gio Gonzalez last winter. The Nationals gave up plenty to get Gonzalez from the A's. But they've since watched him turn into one of the most dominating pitchers in the league. They're 10-2 in his starts; add in their 11-2 record in Strasburg's starts, and the Nationals are 17 games over .500 when one of the top two in their rotation takes the mound. ... "Best deal anyone made last winter," one rival scout said.

Key to success? How about all those #1 picks they got because of finishing at the bottom, that would be your key to success right there. These guys are about due to reach the playoffs, I mean, your team has to be successful eventually and Joe Fan can't be perpetually disappointed - unless this is Joe Cubs Fan we're talking about *sighs after fondly recalling 1908 WS Title

It must be nice Mr. Alltarz to think your are the authority, the judge, and the jury on these sports topics. Maybe the reason I don't get any points is because I thought of it first.
